Foundational Truths
One foundational truth is “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31b-32 NLT).
God’s Word will help you do things that you never thought were possible. As Rick Warren suggests:
- Learn God’s Word. Once you start opening the Bible and reading it, you will start learning what the Bible says.
- Accept God’s Word. The Bible has to be the authority in your life. You may not like what you’re reading, but — if you want God’s best for your life — you need to accept what it says as the final authority for how you live.
- Obey God’s Word. You can’t just learn God’s Word and accept God’s Word. You have to do what the Bible teaches. You don’t get blessed for the parts of the Bible you know. You get blessed for the parts of the Bible you do.
This is why I usually pray everyday for the DISCIPLINE to get into God's Word, the WISDOM to understand it, the ABILITY to accept and apply it, and the POWER to obey it. Only until I started to do these things consistently did I see ginormous positive changes in my life!
I challenge you today to start a Bible reading plan - 10 minutes per day for 10 days, then increase to 15 minutes per day for 15 days. Start small and work your way up to what is best for you. God will honor your decision. You will not be disappointed.
