God asked me today to think of something that I want so bad and feel like I cannot live without. Then He asked, "do you want this more than you want to know Me?" Hmmmm. I knew if I answered yes, that would not be good and I would likely not ever get what I wanted. God taught me that HE must be first and foremost and that I must desire Him more than anyone or anything else in life. So, could I live happily if I never got that "thing" I feel like I could not live without? I need to get to the point in my life to answer a confident YES! God satisfies my every longing and desires and when I believe otherwise, I am deceived. This I know for sure - without doubt.
Covetousness will take me to a place in life where I hate the very thing I had to have. God will essentially say, “Do you think that’s better than Me? Fine. Have it.” Yikes! Note to self: Beware of begging God for any non-essentials my heart craves. In time I may hate what I had to have. This reminds me of the Israelites who wanted "meat" instead of the "manna" God was providing. God gave them meat alright!
I can call nothing my own, but sin.
