After listening to a teaching CD and reading a devotion by Dr. Charles Stanley titled "A Passion to Know God," I had to write this today.
Dr. Stanley taught me that when I develop a passion to know God, I will have an eagerness to learn about God (Psalm 25:4-5) much more than anything else so that I can understand His character, His promises, His grace, and who I am as a child of His. When I think I "know it all," I will get myself in trouble.
Dr. Stanley then says that I will allow God into every detail of my life and be committed to Him transforming me in every area. I will cooperate with His work with a good attitude. I will confess my sins immediately and not delay (Psalm 119:60). I will forgive others and not harbor bitterness.
I will wholeheartedly move God first in my life (Matthew 6:33) and make HIM the top priority over everything! I will long for Him to speak to me (1 Samuel 3:9) during my quiet times, listening intently. I will feel completely comfortable when I'm alone with Him, and I will fall prostrate on the floor in downright humility over how great, mighty, sovereign, loving, faithful, and majestic He is (Isaiah 25:1). I will praise Him all day long and never take anything for granted.
I will speak to Him like a friend but revere Him as my creator God. I will earnestly seek (Psalm 63:1) to please Him by obeying His Word, the Bible, and I will be devoted to memorizing scriptures so that I can carry them wherever I go and lean on them to encourage me and others (James 1:25). My thoughts will be His thoughts and my ways will be His ways! I will turn away from all things that are contrary to what God wants best for my life (Titus 2:12). I will never lack zeal but keep my spiritual fervor serving the Lord (Romans 12:11). I will be an ardent follower of Jesus! YES, ADORE A PASSION FOR GOD! May it be so! (Romans 4:17)
