Although I am not always eager to forgive, I am obligated to forgive those who hurt me (Mark 11:25). What a difficult thing to do. In fact, I know it is too difficult for me to do and that is why I need God's help with this. God says that we lose power from Him when we CHOOSE not to forgive. On the contrary, when we CHOOSE to forgive, He gives us His power to do this burdensome thing. When we forgive, we release "healing" into our lives - real soul healing. Not much compares to the healing and freedom experienced when we obey in this way.
Here is a prayer (written by James MacDonald) that is worth considering praying but only if you wholeheartedly want to and are sincere:
Father God, please reveal those I need to forgive. Shine the bright light of Your truth into the dark corners of my heart, where I hide unforgiveness. I choose today to forgive. Because it’s something You commanded me, I know it’s possible. And because it’s something that pleases You, I beg You to help me. Please help me to forgive, deeply, from my heart, as You have forgiven me. Wherever possible, and as much as it depends on me, please heal my relationships. In the name of Jesus, who paid the highest price for my forgiveness, amen.
