I CHOOSE LIFE, NOT DEATH
I CHOOSE VICTORY, NOT DEFEAT
I CHOOSE BETTER, NOT BITTER
I have learned two major lessons in my lifetime that I want to share since they best illustrate who I am as a person.
One of those lessons is that I have a choice in how I respond to life's circumstances whether or not I caused them or something or someone else caused them.
I've learned that I need to be intentional about the choices I make because there are countless ways that lead to bad or evil and few that lead to good. This brings me to these Bible verses that emphasize this: "For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it" ~ Matthew 7:13-14.
I have chosen to glean from my past failures and successes what I felt benefited me the most and applied them to my life. Due to my faith that has been strengthened through numerous trials, I have learned to embrace ideas, thought patterns, and activities that please God.
I believe that I cannot rise above what I think. I remind myself often to get rid of my stinkin' thinkin'!
Which brings me to the second big lesson I've learned - that I have a choice with allowing the thoughts that linger in my mind and memory, ones that should remain and will favor me or ones that I should immediately toss out and replace with goodness and truth. I choose not to allow my past to dictate my future nor settle for what I inherited from others that may be marked with deception or disaster.
When I look back at my past, I CHOOSE only to remember the good memories. No, I don't deny my past - I CHOOSE to dismiss the things that are not healthy, wholesome, or profitable.
I'd like to share a quote that I wholeheartedly believe and attempt to live by...
By Pete Wilson from his book titled “Empty Promises: The Truth About You, Your Desires, and the Lies You’re Believing” – quote:
“What you worship determines what kind of person you’ll become. For example, if you worship money, you’ll become greedy, and if you worship power, you’ll become corrupt. But if you worship Jesus – the image of the invisible God – then you’ll grow to become more like Him, which is God’s will for you. So place your relationship with God through Jesus at the center of your life and revolve everything else around it on a day-to-day basis.”
The legacy I am building is to be:
A wife worth loving
A mother worth imitating
A leader worth following
I came across this other quote that impacted me since this portrays my thought process and hopefully depicts my character:
“Always pray to have eyes that see the best in people, a heart that forgives the worst, a mind that forgets the bad, and a soul that never loses faith in God.”
As I pointed out the two major life lessons I learned: (1) CHOOSING how I respond to life's circumstances and (2) CHOOSING to entertain the thoughts that remain in my mind which are essential life-lessons that I attribute to knowing God. As a result of the choices I have made, I enjoy indescribable peace and an optimistic outlook on most everything.
An old American-Indian saying is this: there are two wolves at odds within each of us. One wolf is angry, vengeful, arrogant. The other is serene, forgiving, humble. THE ONE WHO WINS IS THE ONE YOU FEED!
I CHOOSE LIFE, NOT DEATH
I CHOOSE VICTORY, NOT DEFEAT
I CHOOSE BETTER, NOT BITTER
(this was my speech that I gave at Toastmasters International on 07-10-14)
I hope this speaks to your heart today! Everything in life is a choice! When we follow closely with the Lord, He helps us to choose right.
