After God created Adam, Adam chose to disobey God. Adam’s action brought consequences to all mankind causing everyone to inherit sin and death (Gen. 3:16-19). God wanted closeness with His creation but now due to sin, this closeness was lost. Instead we experience isolation and loneliness. When sin entered the world, we were all separated from God and experienced three types of “death”- physically (our bodies will eventually die), spiritually (we are born with a dead spirit and not connected to God), and eternally (when we die our souls will end up in hell and this is where we’ll spend eternity). God says that the wages of sin is death (Rom. 6:23). Additionally, we experience violence and hatred toward others. But….because of God’s love for us, He established a way to offer a closeness with Him again – salvation through faith in His Son. God sent His Son, Jesus, into the world to be born of a virgin. God allowed His Son to become the substitute for all mankind to die for our sins. This paid the price for our sins – for all of those who believe and put their faith in this truth. Those who put their faith in what Jesus did for them will be saved (Eph. 2:8-9). They will be given God’s Spirit to indwell them (their dead spirits made alive) and experience the closeness they long for and will be guaranteed eternal life – spending eternity with their Savior. Full reconciliation takes place when a person places his/her faith in Jesus. This person inherits righteousness and life (Rom. 5:12-19; 1 Cor. 15:22). Through Jesus’ redemptive action, we can experience true life, an intimate relationship with God, be lavished in His matchless, unconditional love, and develop a love, care, and concern for others. Yes, Jesus was sent to earth for one reason – to die for us.
Now, three questions? (1) Did Jesus die for everyone? Yes, He did. (2) Is everyone saved by what Jesus did (dying on the cross)? No! Only those who put their faith in this truth will be saved and go to heaven when they die. (3) Last question, have you put your faith in Jesus – believing this truth without requiring proof?
